No War
Photos documents installations made during the residency for Land Art Festival in Grindelwald 2023, Switzerland.
This work is a statement for pacifism, made of locally collected materials. The symbol consists of a combination of the letters „N“ + „W“ (NO WAR). It is inspired by the peace symbol designed by Gerald Holtom in 1958, which represents the letters „N“ and „D“ in the flag as a sign and is the official symbol of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. With this work, I question the role of symbols in our collective consciousness. Could new symbols help people think differently about the world and encourage to act?
Ta praca jest manifestem pacyfistycznym, wykonanym z lokalnie pozyskanych materiałów. Jej znak oparty jest na połączeniu liter „N” i „W” (NO WAR). Inspiracją był symbol pokoju zaprojektowany przez Geralda Holtona w 1958 roku, który łączy litery „N” i „D” w formie znaku flagowego i jest oficjalnym symbolem Kampanii na rzecz Rozbrojenia Nuklearnego. W tej pracy stawiam pytanie o rolę symboli w zbiorowej świadomości. Czy nowe znaki mogłyby pomóc ludziom inaczej myśleć o świecie
i zachęcić ich do działania?
